Company History

Young Development Co., LC was founded by Richard H. "Dick" Young in the late 1960's when he began subdividing farm ground in Waterloo, South of Ridgeway Avenue. He continued to acquire tracts of land in that area between Kimball Avenue and Ansborough Avenue over the next twenty years and was the largest single developer of land in that area. The land developed included single family home sites, apartment and condominium lots as well as office and commercial lots. The company is presently developing Klingaman Park additions in the Shaulis-Hoff Road area. In the early 1970's, he began developing single family lots in South Cedar Falls, including the Bergstrom Addition and the company currently has Green Creek and Cedar Hills Additions under development.

It has been the goal of Young Development Co., LC (YDCLC) to take common "flat" land and turn it into comfortable and interesting residential and commercial neighborhoods by using the latest and most innovative land use design and methods. The ultimate goal is to provide a neighborhood building site that is not only pleasant to live and work in, but that enhances the value of the homes and buildings by being pleasant to the eye and the senses. The company has been one of the largest developers of multi-family housing in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls community. They began with the building of apartments and townhouses and then were one of the first builders to introduce condominiums in the region. Through the direction of Rick Young, YDCLC's current manager, the company has been the largest builder of condominiums in the area with projects for the elderly, the empty nester and exclusive custom built units.

The property management-apartment rental division of YDCLC, manages and/or owns over 80 units in the Cedar Valley. The units range from Section 8 assisted elderly housing to family town homes to the high amenity units.
